Two years ago, we made a simple but powerful promise to give back one per cent of our annual sales to protect the planet that gives us so much.
This week, that promise came full circle. ECOFUEL™ has been officially certified for our second year as a 1% for the Planet member, and with it, we’ve now adopted our fourth acre in Hometree’s Wild Atlantic Rainforest Project.
Our latest certification, verified on 28 October 2025, confirms our giving for the financial year ending June 2025, with two full years of verified commitment. It’s more than a milestone; it’s proof that small, independent businesses can turn values into measurable action verified, not just claimed.
What 1% for the Planet Certification Really Means
There’s a big difference between saying you support the environment and being certified for it.
1% for the Planet is a global movement of over 4,400 businesses across more than 100 countries that commit 1% of their annual sales (not profit) to vetted environmental nonprofits. Members donate directly to approved partners, then submit proof of both revenue and donations for annual review. Once verified, they earn certification confirming that their giving is real and meets or exceeds the 1% threshold.
It’s a model built on credibility and transparency, not marketing fluff.
At least half of every member’s contribution must be monetary, while the rest can come from in-kind donations or employee volunteering, all documented and approved per the organisation’s membership rules. Each year, 1% for the Planet reviews financials, receipts, and partner confirmations to ensure every euro claimed is a euro given.
“Being certified means every fire we sell fuels restoration.”
For ECOFUEL™, this certification, proudly displayed on our 2025 certificate, represents a year of certified giving, bringing our lifetime total to €27,683 donated to environmental causes.
Every cent came directly from our own revenue, not from offsets or add-ons. It’s our way of building accountability into how we do business.
When customers see the 1% for the Planet mark on our packaging or website, it’s not a symbol of aspiration, but a record of action.

Adopting Acres, Protecting Wild Forests
When we joined 1% for the Planet in 2023, we knew exactly where we wanted our contributions to go: home, to Ireland’s west coast. That’s where Hometree, an Irish environmental charity, is leading the Wild Atlantic Rainforest Project, an ambitious plan to restore one of Europe’s rarest and most magical ecosystems: the temperate rainforest.
Ireland’s “rainforests” might sound mythical, but they’re very real.
Along the Atlantic seaboard, mild air and near-constant rainfall create a world of moss-draped oaks, ferns, lichens, and wildflowers that thrive in the mist. Once, native woodland covered 80% of the island. Today, only about 1% remains, fragments of ancient forest clinging to steep valleys and ocean-facing slopes.
The Wild Atlantic Rainforest Project aims to restore around 4,000 acres across eight sites on Ireland’s Atlantic seaboard, reconnecting fragmented habitats and reviving biodiversity lost for generations. But this isn’t a quick tree-planting campaign; it’s careful ecological restoration.
When you adopt an acre through Hometree, you’re not simply buying trees. You’re funding ecosystem restoration: protecting and regenerating existing woodland, managing grazing pressure, removing invasive species, collecting native seed, and planting where nature needs help.
In short, you’re giving nature the space and time to heal itself.
“We don’t buy offsets, we build roots.”

Our Journey So Far
In 2023, soon after joining 1% for the Planet, ECOFUEL™ adopted our first acre.
By 2024, our support had expanded to two acres, funding Hometree’s early groundwork, ecological surveys, native-seed collection, and local community partnerships across the west of Ireland.
And in 2025, we’ve now adopted our fourth acre.
Looking back, it’s hard to believe how much has taken root since that first acre. Together, these four acres represent a living commitment, part of a larger restoration effort that has already surveyed hundreds of acres, propagated millions of native seeds, and prepared land for large-scale rewilding beginning in 2025 and beyond.
Our visit to Hometree’s Avoca (Wicklow) site brought that mission to life: diverse young woodland, wet grassland, and clear running water, the building blocks of a self-sustaining forest.
Standing there, surrounded by the hum of life returning, the meaning of “1%” felt very real.
Each acre is small on its own, but together they become part of something much larger, a growing network of Irish businesses and individuals helping to reestablish wild, native forests along the Atlantic edge.
Why Certified Giving Matters
We live in an age of green claims and easy marketing slogans. The 1% for the Planet model cuts through that noise.
It requires measurable giving, transparent reporting, and third-party verification. There’s no shortcut and no “carbon credit” loophole, only direct, accountable impact.
Every certification cycle involves independent verification: 1% for the Planet reviews our revenue and donation records before awarding certification.
For us, being certified is about integrity. It means every order, every delivery, every purchase contributes to tangible environmental action. Our products warm homes and ovens, but through this commitment, they also help protect and regrow forests.
And our customers are at the heart of it. Every ECOFUEL™ order has helped fund this work; every bag, box, and pallet shipped has quietly powered rewilding in Ireland. You made this happen.
Looking Ahead: From Four Acres to a Forest
Rewilding is a long game.
Forests don’t grow in a year, and real restoration takes patience, but that’s exactly why it matters. With four acres already adopted, ECOFUEL™ will continue to support Hometree as it moves into the next phase of planting, regenerating, and monitoring new woodlands across Ireland’s west.
Our goal is to expand our impact each year by adding more acres, deepening our partnership, and inspiring other Irish businesses to take the same step.
We’ll also be updating our 1% for the Planet membership page to share our progress transparently, including our certificate, donation milestones, and field updates.
If you’d like to learn more about the movement we’re part of, visit 1% for the Planet or explore Hometree’s Wild Atlantic Rainforest Project.
And if you’ve ever placed an order with us, thank you.
You’re already part of this story.
A Shared Promise
What started as a pledge has now become a growing acres of possibility.
Two years certified.
Four acres adopted.
Countless hours of work from people who care deeply about Ireland’s wild places.
We’re proud of what’s been achieved, but prouder still that this commitment runs deeper than any campaign or certificate.
It’s woven into the way we operate: the belief that better fires should lead to stronger forests.
Our story is still young, but like every forest, it grows best when it’s shared one acre, one customer, one promise at a time.
