Tiny Changes: WEEE Drop Off

Tiny Changes: WEEE Drop Off

Oct 06, 2020Leanne Conroy

As you’ve probably seen we’re making a few tiny changes to how we work to make a lot of difference to our customers, our staff and processes, and the environment.

Our latest tiny change is that we’ve gotten registered with WEEE so we are now officially a drop-off point for your old batteries so they can be disposed of safely as opposed to degrading in a landfill with general waste.

Why should you recycle batteries?

Simple, some single-use batteries can contain dangerous materials such as mercury, cadmium and lead which are really bad for the environment. If they aren’t properly disposed of the battery can corrode and leak these harmful metals, potentially leading to soil and water pollution.

This is really a small and simple step that can make a big difference!

So next time you’re in our Galway store

Or our new Dublin store

You can drop off your old batteries while you pick up your firewood. Win-Win!

For a little bit of extra feel good-ness, WEEE also supports LauraLynn, Ireland’s only hospice service for children with life-limiting conditions. They receive no government funding and are entirely dependent on support from charity partners and donations.

Every battery recycled by the public goes towards a donation to LauraLynn by WEEE.
