Sustainable Brands

Dec 22, 2019Marc Eglon

There’s a rising trend in ethical and sustainable brands that combine quality, style, and a long-term view of their impact on the planet.

In the coming weeks, I’ll share showcase the work of these companies, both in Ireland and globally. The aim is to help you discover new sustainable brands to help you shop ethically. And inspire you to kickstart some ideas in your own workplace to become more sustainable.

To start this series, we’ll focus on Patagonia, an outdoor clothing brand that has always had sustainability at its heart. Patagonia was born as a small company making gear for climbers and expanded into clothing for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, mountain biking and trail running.

Patagonia’s heritage means that their clothing is perfect for the street and for work as well as the great outdoors. It’s a company driven by values, one of which is ‘build the best product’, which they define as having ‘function, repairability, and, foremost, durability’.

These values dictate everything the company does. They have a ‘wornwear’ store that sells recycled Patagonia clothing, and when they raised $10 million for environmental companies in December 2019, Patagonia matched it with $10m of their own money.

As this series unfolds, we'll extend this article to showcase more sustainable brands that we admire.
